PRAYER ALERT JAPAN EARTHQUAKE AND TSUNAMI

An 8.9 earthquake struck Japan on Thursday, March 10, resulting in a 23-foot tsunami that killed hundreds of people. Boats, cars, and entire homes were swept out to sea.

One of the largest earthquakes ever recorded hit northeastern Japan on March 11. Damage is said to be extensive. The quake also generated a 23-foot tsunami that slammed into the eastern coast of Japan and reached as far as the Pacific coast of North America. Houses, vehicles and people were swept out to sea.

The disaster left millions without power. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people were killed. Fires erupted and continued to burn, and areas near nuclear reactors were evacuated.

"We don't even know the extent of the damage," a disaster management official said. "Roads were badly damaged and cut off as the tsunami washed away debris, cars and many other things."

Prime Minister Naoto Kan stated at a news conference that the earthquake "caused major damage in a broad area in northern Japan."

The United Nations estimates that more than 100,000 people have crossed into the neighboring nations of Tunisia and Egypt in an attempt to flee the oppressive crackdown by dictator, Muammar al-Qadhafi. One report estimated 1,000 people were escaping into Tunisia every hour.

Although the government has killed untold numbers of demonstrators, the opposition to al-Qadhafi continues to grow. Protesters have taken control of several cities and reportedly shot down a government plane. The military surrounded rebels in Zawiya, about 30 miles east of Tripoli, but the rebels have refused to retreat.

PRAY FOR:

* Christians in Libya to avoid the temptation to panic and live in fear. Pray for the Lord to fill them with strength and courage. Ask Him to provide them with opportunities to share the Gospel in this crisis. (The Bible, Joshua 1:7; I Corinthians 16:9)
* Muslims in Libya to be set free from the lies and bondage of Islam. Pray for the Lord to pour out His Holy Spirit on this nation and its people. (The Bible, Colossians 1:13; Acts 2:32,33)

INTO AN ISLAMIC CITY

Update from Mombasa, kenya:
Jesus Touch the World Church and Tyrannus Bible School. This ministry has withstood much opposition while being situated in a downtown area that is over 90% Muslim with 72 mosques in a 4 km square area. There are only 29 churches in the entirety of the much larger area of greater Mombasa. Muslims have raised petitions to have this ministry closed, they have broken church windows, purposely placed market stands in the way of the church entrance to block it, increased their chanting below the windows of the church, turned the loud speakers of their mosques toward the church building so their Islamic prayers can be heard during the church meetings, and they once sacrificed a goat at the doors of the church and left the blood on the pavement for everyone to walk over.

But Bishop Faustin Panga doesn't budge. In fact he prays even more fervently. The church, which has 4 Sunday morning services, meets together for prayer at 4 a.m. daily, relieving a group of intercessors who have prayed through the night in the church building. There is either teaching, preaching, or praying going on 24 hours a day at Jesus Touch the World Ministry. Islamic witchcraft, especially in the form of goat sacrifice throughout the city every Thursday night, is a reality the Bishop and his people are willing to confront in order to establish a work of God for the sake of winning the lost and raising them up in the Lord! They are willing to have continuous prayer in the church building "to keep taking ground." They must get local government permission for their all-night prayer meetings. The government is Islamic but God has given favor to Bishop Panga who is a very courageous man. The government has assigned 3 policemen to each of the church's services to deal with any harassment from the community. And their ministry IS making a difference in the city!
